I don’t know how it happened, but I am now a certified Drum Circle Facilitator, it was obviously meant to be, as it all just seem to happen on its own, I simply had to go with the flow. I don’t even remember how I ended up on the facilitator course site but when I did I just knew I had to do it. So off I went in July 2023 to a beautiful place near Pisa to meet Arthur Hull and Harshil Filippo Chiostri, the course was in Italian and English so I guess I got my money’s worth as I speak both languages. Accomodation was the beautiful Italian countryside and the menu was vegetarian or vegan, what more could I ask for? It was a blast, but much more than this and something happened that I wasn’t expecting. After the first couple of days of theory and drumming late into the night it all went to another level and became a spiritual experience.

A ‘drum circle’ can be simply defined as “a group of people who play together to create the music of the moment using drums and percussion instruments.” So these circles can be called ‘drum circles, rhythm circles or percussion circles. The key words and phrases are: group, playing together and creating and living in the moment. The circle is used because it guarantees equality, there is no leader, there can be a facilitator, but the facilitator’s task is only a guide and must stay out of the center of the circle as much as possible.
Drum Circles can –
encourage people to have fun through rhythm
I think we often forget to have fun, we get so caught up in everyday life and world events that we neglect a part of us that always lives in the moment and wants to enjoy that moment.
allow people to reconnect at their own pace
I think we have become disconnected from who we really are, we live our lives externally, we rarely go inward to discover our inner treasures. We are out of sync with our rhythm, and this affects our health and well-being.
allow people to reconnect with nature through the reproduction of nature’s rhythms
just as we are disconnected from the joys of who we truly are, so we have become disconnected from nature and its rhythm. We are part of nature and reconnecting with that part of who we are will help our health and well-being.
allow people to reconnect with the rhythm of humanity
we are all part of the great human family but we constantly create separation and division between us. One human being alone may not be able to change the world, but all humanity together is a huge light in our Universe. Reconnecting to the collective rhythm of our true self will lift humanity out of the mess we currently find ourselves in.
